The amber contains a fascinating, millennia-old history:
Created 52 million years ago – from the resin of the golden larch. 52 million years ago, the world was boisterous, pure, and unlike today. During this time, amber was created.
When amber is found in the earth, it is completely natural, about 92% are opaque. Only about 8% of the amber that is found are transparent by nature (typical would be cognac – amber color).
The WENDESTEIN (Amber Nugget) is a piece of untreated natural amber. It is mainly to be found in the Baltic States, in Lithuania. Natural amber consists of approximately 80% carbon, 10% oxygen, 10% hydrogen and small parts of sulfur.
The untreated natural amber
It is found in the earth, as the WENDESTEIN ultimately looks in its shape, color and size. In the turning stone, one side is sanded and polished so that its uniqueness and beauty are fully effective. The second side remains untreated in the original state, as it touched the earth for the first time 52 million years ago as a viscous tree resin.
Only in this untreated form, all the positive qualities of natural amber, such as 52 million years of stored uranium energy, retain antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. The Wendestein (natural amber) was not subjected to any kind of treatment.
The treated natural amber
Natural amber is treated so that it becomes clear – transparent and maintains its typical brown amber color.
The treatment – clarification of the amber – takes place in autoclaves. You can imagine this as an oven in which the pressure is about 40 bar and the oven is heated to about 200 to 300 degrees Celsius.
The amber stays in this oven for four to twelve hours, until the trapped oxygen migrates through the heat and pressure to the surface of the amber and then evaporates.
In this treatment, all the positive bacteria and properties that the amber has ever possessed are killed and thus it is sterile.
The WENDESTEIN, however, remains completely natural, as Mother Nature has created it. This is also confirmed in an enclosed certificate. To document the authenticity of a Wendestein, we have lasered a “W” into each Wendestein.
The pressed amber
Pressed amber is made from small amber grains (like sand). This is heated to about 300 degrees Celsius until it becomes viscous (like very thick honey).
Subsequently a color (that the market requests) is added. In this viscous state, the mass is pressed into shapes, such as pipes, plates, etc. After cooling, it is ground into balls, cylinders, etc., and thus comes on the market as “genuine” amber. This type of amber has absolutely nothing to do with natural amber.
To sell pressed amber as genuine amber is covered by law, since the base material consists of amber. This is a pure monetary rip-off and it abuses the buyers lack of knowledge.
The Sumatran amber
Amber occurs in many parts of the world. Another kind of amber used by WENDESTEIN, in addition to the Baltic natural amber, is amber from Sumatra. It differs both in age (about 20 million years old), as well as in appearance (dark, beige and white shades), as well as the descent of the tree.
The Sumatra amber is a leaf tree that is resinous (as a reminder: the Baltic amber originates from the amber pine, a conifer). This amber was discovered only by chance a few years ago, during the mining of coal. Due to its special coloring and the extraordinary beauty, it is a neat addition to the range of WENDESTEIN.
